Christmas Cuteness

I’m not a generally festive person. I don’t really enjoy Christmas Carols, and sure, I’ll put up a tree. But only so the presents have something to sit underneath. It’s not that I hate it, or don’t enjoy it. It’s just that it takes so much effort. I’d much rather walk down Franklin Rd, or hang out in Western Park and enjoy other people’s efforts.

But then this morning, while I was dropping Quinn off at daycare, I took the two seconds to help Quinn be a bit more festive. Because I’m pretty sure that Quinn is the kind of dog who really would enjoy making the Christmas effort if he didn’t live with such a ‘cant be bothered’ family.

Sometimes, even if you can’t be bothered, Christmas wriggles its way into your heart with its cuteness, and you can’t help feel a little bit festive.

    @Foo – Aww, thanks friend! :)

    @Emily Jane – Haha, the hat has got a clever elastic draw string that means that it can’t come off. Took him a moment or two to get used to, though :)

    @Andrea – *grin* Thanks! I guess Festivity and Santa Hats aren’t for all. I guess this is why we appreciate it where and when we can?

    @Jillian – Yay for wriggles! :)

    So, it’s been a while since I plied you with an asinine Southern Hemisphere question… In L.A. it barely gets cold at all during December and it certainly doesn’t snow, so we have certain compensatory rituals. Shopping malls have fake snow that kids can play in, houses decorate their outside with projected lights that make it look like it’s snowing, and we spray that ultra-toxic white goop on things to make things look “seasonal.” Do you guys do similar things there or is there not as strong of an association between snow and Christmas in NZ?

    P.S. Yay! Dog in hat!

    Oh gosh! What a sweet little pupperface! I think my Winnadog needs a jaunty little cap as well!

  8. Elly Says:

    @JJ – There is no fake snow, but instead we get random things like Surfing Santas, who replace shirts for sunglasses, and get a bit sunburnt (eg – http://bit.ly/6CgwJ8). There is alot of pretty lights, and things. Lots of giant reindeer and presents around, the general festive paraphernalia really. We tend to exchange snow for things like pohutukawa blossoms (its like a native NZ tree that blooms with red flowers around Christmas). I’d happily exchange the pohutakawa for snow, though. Pohutukawa showers hard out with prickles come February, and snow is awesome! :)

    @Desiree – Yes! All dogs should have jaunty little festive caps! :)
